Job Description and Duties

Staff Psychiatrist – Telepsychiatry Program (Night/Weekend Shifts).

This is a limited term position which may be extended or become permanent.

**This job is advertised in four separate counties at the following locations: Elk Grove, Santa Ana, Rancho Cucamonga and Diamond Bar.

This position is telework-centered with in-person attendance required at the Region Institutions and the Regional Office based on operational needs and training requirements.

California Correctional Health Care Services and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation are seeking dedicated and compassionate psychiatrists to join our statewide Telepsychiatry team to provide night and weekend coverage. Telepsychiatry night shift program provides psychiatric services to patients within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's 30+ adult correctional institutions and utilize some of the most advanced technologies available. Coverage will reflect hours between 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. for 3 nights per week or 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. for 5 nights per week (consecutive days). The specific days we are hiring for are:

(1) Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
(2) Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 6:00 pm to 2:00 a.m.
(3) Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6:00 pm to 2:00 a.m.

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 16, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 4.62 percent and will receive 8 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Opportunities to telework within California may be available for employees after the onboarding period who can satisfactorily perform their essential work functions independently and remotely.  If there are technological issues or performance concerns, telepsychiatrists may still be asked to work from the hub. They may also work from the hub if that is their preference or if they do not have a confidential space or adequate bandwidth at home to support teleconferencing.


This classification is subject to Section 5, Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) Authorization of the California State Civil Service Pay Scales. The authorized HAM rate for this classification is
$30, 259 - $31,136.



IMPORTANT
: California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) employees may be eligible for a $5,000 referral bonus should you be selected for hire, and remain employed with CCHCS for 90 days. For a CDCR/CCHCS employee to be considered, a questionnaire must be completed to the best of your knowledge, including the referring employee’s name, classification, PERNR, and work location. The questionnaire will be provided to the selected candidate during the pre-employment process.

Under the direction of the Chief of Telepsychiatry, and Senior Supervising Psychiatrist, the Staff Psychiatrist is responsible for direct provision of psychiatric services to inmates in person or via telepresence. This includes evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and related medical care of inmates in the general population, the infirmary, Correctional Clinical Case Management System, and/or Enhanced Outpatient Program.
